At American Egg Products, the expansion and facility remodel were focused on bringing the plant controls upgrade and automation to a cutting-edge management and controls network to focus on efficiency and sustainability that ranges from product quality and integrity to training. Inside of this, during this expansion and upgrade, also included modernization of pumps and valves, CIP capabilities of cleaning efficiency, water reduction, chemical savings, and labor savings.
The wastewater upgrades provided a powerful benefit for this client, making them more efficient in product recovery with less waste. Water use was cut by 40%. The facility was initially using almost 100,000 gallons a day before the update, and then it dropped to approximately 60,000 gallons a day once the upgrades were complete.
The American Egg Plant processes liquid egg products. It takes shelled eggs, breaks them, and separates them into whites, yolks, or whole eggs, which are then packaged and distributed as different products.
These upgrades encourage better employee onboarding and retention. With these automations, training becomes easier. Instead of the old pumps you had to manually take apart, now they clean automatically, delivering a more consistent clean and improving uptime.
The project is similar to a previous upgrade done at Carolina Egg and focuses on three main areas:
This was an upgrade on controls, valving, new breaker installed, addition of a silo alley and 2 new silos. We also installed all new twin screw pumps and a new chill press. This included all new fillers for gable top containers, bag in box filler, pasteurizing equipment, Aseptic tank, addition of a new silo, chiller, refrigeration, HVAC, boiler, MCC room, packaging lines, robot for pallet wrapping and stacking.
